2up Winch Adaptor

Events

Kiwi ingenuity is alive and well. Auckland man Craig Brassey’s 2up Winch Adaptor is proof.

Craig Brassey has been four wheeling for 15 years, much of it around the winch challenge scene competing firstly as winch man for his brother and more recently for fellow club member Bernie Knoz.   Which is where the idea for the 2up Adaptor came from.

Craig wanted to increase the winch’s capabilities with more power, better reliability and increased speed and since there wasn’t anything to suit his requirements on the market at the time, he set out and designed and built such a winch, or at least an adapter to convert most popular low-mount electric winches.

A mechanic by trade, Craig is also a skilled welder, hydraulics and machining man and fabricator with has his own contract engineering business.  In the past he had worked in the field of hydraulics including in the yachting industry and even done work on several of our naval ships.  A special project Craig worked on recently is a helicopter flight simulator.

As an engineer Craig used computer aided design (CAD) programmes to draw up options to achieve a cost-effective higher-performance winch solution.   That solution is the 2up Winch Adapter which converts a standard electric low-mount winch into a twin motor winch thus increasing pulling power, speed and reliability.

The 2up Adapter is an alloy housing that fits onto the end of a low-mount winch allowing twin electric motors of your choice to be mounted above the winch drum giving the benefits of two motors to increase power and because two motors share the load in all winching situations, increases motor life and reliability.

The motors drive the winch through a special taper lock pulley and drive belt and with the tie bars mounted higher up with special end brackets, 25-30% more rope can be accommodated on the standard drum.
