This year’s Winter Woollies trip into the Waiouru Army Training Grounds was held a little later than usual, being more of a ‘spring’ trip because of the procedures that the Desert Defenders Off Road Club had to undertake to get final approval.
Organised by Kandy Mott and the team from the Desert Defenders Off Road Club the trip takes in part of Karioi Forest and then western side of Waiouru Army Training Facility (WATF) on the slopes of Mt Ruapehu. Funds raised go towards Variety, The Children’s Charity and this year Achilles Radial were once again naming rights supporter of the event.
After the formal briefing and safety procedures, including one from Adam “Hoff” Hoffman, the Range Management Officer, were over the vehicles departed in groups leaving through the Variety Arch and Achilles Radial banners and were quickly entering Karioi Forest and eventually the training grounds.
Once again a well organised trip with good quality meals and yet another chance to renew friendships and make new ones. Whilst not actually a “Winter Woollies” trip, it was a great ‘Spring Adventure’ and hopefully will be on again next year.
