X marks the spot where Great Wall Motors in New Zealand has moved into the mainstream passenger vehicle market with its new X240 4WD, a full five-seat station wagon based on the tough underpinnings of the V240 utility as tested in our November issue. Great Wall’s V240 and SA220 twin cab utilities have been embraced by New Zealand buyers since their launch in June, and now the same value-for-money formula of quality, high equipment levels and ultra competitive pricing is available to those seeking a 4WD sports utility vehicle. The X240 is a modern design loaded with many creature comforts including electric driver’s seat, leather trimmed seats, power steering, air conditioning, central locking, eight speaker CD/MP3 sound system, alloy wheels and four wheel disc brakes. Colours available are white, black, silver and red. A sun roof is an extra-cost option. Power comes from a 100 kW/200 Nm 2.4-litre petrol engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox that drives through a switch-operated “on the fly” high and low range 4WD system. However unlike the leaf sprung ute versions the X240 gets an independent rear suspension with four-link and coil springs. Minimum ground clearance is 175 mm. The X240 is backed by a comprehensive three year/100,000 km warranty, and supported by Great Wall dealers through the Ateco network, with a 24/7 roadside assistance programme. Price $28,990. |
