Have Suzuki, will travel

To get to Reefton from the Wairarapa for this year’s Zukfest (for Suzuki 4x4s) we took an overnight sailing on Blue Bridge arriving in Picton at 6am on Easter Friday.

Fresh and fed for a quick trip south, we arrived just before 10am in the morning giving us plenty of time to check in at our motel, release ‘Little Whale’ and head for the Reefton Workingmens Club, official HQ of the event.

James, the president of hosts the Canterbury Suzuki 4WD Club, gave a welcoming speech and briefing to all assembled regarding the different trips, safety (very important), what gear the trip leaders had, etc.

Pete our Grade 3 leader assembled the various Suzukis in our group and we headed for Soldiers-Big River Road. Once on the gravel we stopped to adjust tyre pressures and select 4WD.

Saturday and it was a case of up early and with the possibility of rain it was decided that Napoleon Hill was the first order of the day.

Sunday, a new day, no rain and clearing skies and it was looking to be an interesting morning as the Wankel Hill track was another I had heard about but not done.

A great three days and I learned a lot along the way…so much so that I am already looking forward to Zuk Central, Easter 2016,
