This really is a truck

A lot of 4WDrivers like to call their vehicle a truck – much to the frustration of those who actually drive trucks - but the IVECO Daily is based on a truck style rigid chassis and depending on how it is equipped can be driven on a car licence or specced up to require a Class 2 (truck) licence.

Available only in cab/chassis configuration as either a double or single cab variant, this allows a lot of customisation. At the recent press event held at Hampton Downs they had one that had been fitted out with a custom body for camping (with a Darche  roof top tent), front and back winches, a grunty bull bar and side protection, a snorkel plus special wheels and mud tyres. This is based on the 3780mm Wheelbase 7T version, it was built by Forged Alloy and features integrated underbody storage boxes with drop steps, fridge fit out with heavy duty drawers and storage system, a slide out kitchen, which includes an induction cooktop and a Redarc 3000W inverter connected to a Lithium battery and solar panel.

The Daily 4x4 comes in three wheelbase options 3480mm, 3780mm and 4175mm with a GVM of 7200kg and a GCM of 10500kg (Tow rating is 3500kg).

The engine is a 3.0-litre Euro6 turbo diesel putting out 132kW of power and 430nM of torque, connected to a ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox, it comes standard with triple diff locks (Front, Centre and rear), operated by dials on the dashboard.

NZ4WD had the opportunity to drive the modified camper version around the 4WD test track at Hampton Downs, it has massive ground clearance, good articulation and a reasonable ride given the vans size. With mud tyres and triple diff locks it laughed at anything the test course could offer, including the water hazard.

This would be a great base for a rugged work vehicle, back country tourer or for an overseas adventure vehicle.
