New Jeep Grand Cherokee

New and tested 4WDs

The new Jeep Grand Cherokee, which arrives in New Zealand Jeep dealers this month, completely redefines the premium SUV, delivering customers an unprecedented combination of leading powertrain options, legendary capability, elegant design, and a host of advanced user-friendly technology and safety features.
A new eight-speed transmission now drives the entire Grand Cherokee range, significantly reducing fuel consumption and emissions while improving acceleration, enabling smoother and faster gear shifting, and enhancing the on- and off-road driving experience.
A new Laredo 4x2 variant has been introduced to the Grand Cherokee range – powered by the 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 engine matched to the new eight-speed automatic transmission – offering customers a new, more accessible entry point to the flagship model of the Jeep range priced at $64,990.
A new exterior design comes complete with new bi-xenon headlamps with e LED daytime running lights, new wheels designs and a host of detail styling changes.
Interior luxury includes Nappa leather and exotic open-pore wood trim, plus a new three-spoke steering wheel.

New infotainment features include the new Uconnect system with 8.4-inch touchscreen and the new 7-inch TFT colour customer configurable instrument cluster display. The high-performance SRT model is available with a 19-speaker, 825W Harman Kardon surround sound audio system.

Jeep capability comes courtesy of three 4WD systems – Quadra-Trac II, Quadra-Drive II and the SRT-exclusive Quadra-Trac, as well as Quadra-Lift air suspension and the Selec-Terrain and Selec-Track traction management systems.

Advanced safety features include updated Forward Collision Warning with Crash Mitigation and all-new Selec-Speed Control.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in New Zealand with a choice of four engines, opening with the 3.6-litre 210kW/347Nm V6 engine, and a 3-litre 184kW/570Nm V6 turbo diesel which, with the latest Multijet II technology, provides the ability to dash to 100 km/h in 8.2 seconds and an open road fuel consumption of 6.5 litres/100 km. With a torque figure of 570 Nm, the diesel powered Grand Cherokee makes an ideal tow car.

The range also includes two benchmark V8 engines, the 5.7-litre 259kW/520Nm V8 and the 6.4-litre 344kW/624Nm Hemi.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT thunders to 100 km/h in 5 seconds and can max out at 257 km/h. But fuel saving features mean the V8 gets an open road 9.2 litres/100 km and 13 litres/100 km on the combined cycle, while the SRT, despite its prodigious performance, sips fuel at a rate of 10.1 litres/100 km on the open road and 14 litres/100 km on the combined test.
