New-look Triton ute on way

Performance and safety upgrades to Mitsubishi’s new-look Triton will make it one of the most  advanced utes in the segment with the local distributor predicting big things for the re-specced and re-styled model.

“Triton has gone from strength to strength since its launch 40 years ago, reflecting drivers’ changing demands and we are confident this new Triton will push uptake to the next level, with sales expected to increase by up to 25 percent,” said Reece Congdon, MMNZ Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs.

The new 1-tonne ute was globally launched in late November in Bangkok, Thailand, and MMNZ was eagerly awaiting its New Zealand arrival in late December.

 “More and more Kiwis are looking to combine the luxuries of a lifestyle vehicle with the performance of a ute and Triton’s increasing popularity reflects its ability to deliver that. This new model brings enhancements to the durability, capability and comfort developed over decades of improvements.”

Tougher, better, safer, stronger

The new Triton combines a robust profile, increased ground clearance and an enhanced 4WD system, which together deliver rugged good looks, greater rigidity and improved off-road performance. Machine-finished 18” alloys on GLX-R and VRX models add an extra touch of quality.

Triton’s class-leading Super Select II 4WD system, available in top-of-the-range 4WD models, is now equipped with a new Off-road Mode featuring GRAVEL, MUD/SNOW, SAND and ROCK settings. When engaged, Off-road Mode controls engine power, transmission and braking to regulate the amount of wheel slip and thereby maximise all-terrain performance.

The addition of Hill Descent Control to Triton’s off-road armoury provides further assistance in challenging situations, maintaining a constant vehicle speed during descents by regulating braking force to each wheel, allowing the driver to concentrate on steering.

There are performance enhancements on the open road, too, with the addition of a new six-speed automatic transmission, enabling smoother, more powerful acceleration overall and less engine noise at high speeds.

The existing range’s high-durability, ladder-type frame and high-impact protection cabin structure is retained, backed by the latest in Mitsubishi’s active safety and driver assistance systems. These innovative safety features are new to Triton, with Forward Collision Mitigation and Lane Departure Warning also available down the range on GLX & GLX-R models.

Top-of-the-range VRX models benefit from Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Multi Around View Monitor and front and rear parking sensors, among other features – all of which make Triton one of the most advanced utes in the segment.

VRX and GLX-R models also feature larger front brake discs and two pistons in each caliper for improved braking performance and greater safety overall.
