The NZ4WD test team review the Hankook Dynapro AT2 (RF11) Tyre

4WD Accesories

The Hankook Dynapro AT2 (or RF11), is the successor to the well-liked and highly-regarded RF10, an all-terrain (A/T) tyre with a reputation for long life and quietness. In our video review which you can check out at (https://nz4wd.co.nz/article/hankook-dynapro-at2-rf11-tyre-review) we put the company’s claims of ‘advanced technology’ and ‘superiority in every dimension’ to the test on a variety of local terrains and surfaces.

The RF11 is a bit of an all-rounder, striking the perfect balance between off-road traction and on-road manners. Aside from producing a tyre that out-performs the RF10 overall, Hankook’s research and development team has focussed on the key ‘demand’ areas of A/T tyre versatility, making huge improvements to the conventional in terms of off-road traction, dry handling, comfort and quietness.

For off-road use, the RF11’s multi-way grooves and sipes have been arranged to create better traction in any direction. It comes with an extra biting block edge for beach and mountain grip and locking shoulder lugs that cause the tyre to remain flat and stable, maximising its contact patch.

With most all-terrain (A/T)tyres you get some tarmac hum, however, thanks to the RF11’s design advances in areas such as a step block edge, a block-chain control system and an aero shoulder, tests have demonstrated that it produces up to eight percent less road noise over the already impressive RF10. The addition of ‘tie bars’ between the shoulder blocks also minimises road ‘squirm’ allowing for a more confident ride.

In terms of endurance, once again the RF11 delivers. It features a breakthrough formulation that incorporates highly-dispersible silica into a silica polymer network, resulting in enhanced resistance to chip and cut damage in gravel plus a six percent increase in mileage over the RF10, a tyre which Hankook says has seen tread life regularly exceed 100,000km.

With the Dynapro AT2 (RF11) tyre, it looks like Hankook has once again lifted the bar in all-terrain tyres!
