Petrol Prado is back

Toyota has added a 4 litre V6 petrol engine to its Land Cruiser Prado line-up.
Available only in the top VX Limited grade, the new petrol engine is on sale now for  $106,690.
Toyota New Zealand general manager of sales and operations, Steve Prangnell says the company originally did not offer the petrol model due to fuel prices, but there had been customer demand.
“When we launched the new model Prado last year it was then a diesel-only line-up as the price of petrol was skyrocketing,” says Prangnell. “Since then we have had many customers ask for the petrol version so we are responding to the voice of the customer by introducing this 4 litre V6 version.”
Prado’s 4litre 1GR-FE V6 petrol engine delivers 202 kW of power at 5,600 rpm and 381 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm.
Like the diesel models it has a full-time 4WD system with lockable Torsen centre differential and a two-speed transfer with  VX Limited models offering electronic KDSS (kinetic dynamic suspension system), adaptive variable suspension (AVS) and height adjustable rear suspension.
The petrol Prado will tow up to 2500 kg with a braked trailer, and 750 kg with an unbraked unit.
Vehicle stability ontrol (VSC) and active traction control (A-TRC) are also standard.
All new Prado models, including this new petrol, have front SRS airbags, front seat side, driver’s knee and full length three row curtain shield airbags, as well as active front headrests for advanced crash protection.
All models feature a smart entry and start system, 3.5mm and USB audio input jacks, Bluetooth handsfree  phone capability, reversing camera, parking sensors, and an alarm system.
The petrol Prado also features 18 inch alloy wheels, under floor mounted spare wheel, electrochromatic interior rear view mirror, front and side view cameras, front parking sensors, HID headlights with adaptive front-lighting system (AFS), headlight cleaners, three zone climate control air conditioning, front seat heaters, leather seat material, with power adjustable front seats, Optitron instruments, power adjustable tilt and telescopic steering column, front fog lights, a glass hatch in the rear door, roof rails, and rear privacy glass.
The petrol version also gains the same advanced specifications as the VX Limited diesel model, such as a pre-crash safety system, dynamic radar cruise control, leather and woodgrain style steering wheel, six disc CD/DVD changer with 14 speakers, satellite navigation system, coolbox, front seat memory system, woodgrain style console, rear seat entertainment system with 9” screen, and a tilt and slide sunroof.
