Motospecs has introduced a revolutionary new product to the New Zealand automotive aftermarket: Drivetech SumoSprings, the world’s first and only load assist “airless airbag” suspension system for utes, vans, 4WDs and other working vehicles, a “fit and forget” product that requires zero maintenance or adjustment once installed.
Designed for vehicles fitted with leaf spring suspension,. they have been designed and engineered specifically to meet market demand for a zero maintenance suspension support solution, removing the need to pump up airbags in order to improve suspension and achieve a level load.
Says Ben Lavis,  Motospecs category manager, Ben Lavis, “With Drivetech SumoSprings, there’s no more carrying a 12V compressor in your vehicle or pulling into the servo just to check and adjust your airbags. You simply fit and forget because the spring rate adjusts automatically depending on your load.”
The SumoSprings are manufactured using a durable closed cell polyurethane foam which progressive compression under load and variable road conditions. In simple terms, the more weight you apply, the stronger the spring becomes. It is cpable of maintaining loads in excess of 2,200kg.
The SumoSprings also eliminate the frustrations of leaking or puncturing, which Motospecs says is common in conventional airbags.
The closed cell foam won’t rupture and can even be punctured without causing any loss of performance. It is also indifferent to weather extremes, and performance remains unchanged within an incredible  minus 40 to 93C range.
It is supplied as a bolt-on kit which allows easy installation with no drilling required, and can be quickly and simply installed to vehicles with or without existing airbag bracket systems.
Ben says Drivetech SumoSprings has generated a lot of interest while displaying “sneak peeks” of the product at various trade shows around the country.
 “We have had a lot of interest from potential retail, trade and commercial customers for the product range. There’s nothing else like them in the Australasian automotive aftermarket, and potential customers are very keen to know more about them.”
The initial range covers select models from Ford, Holden, Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Mazda, Nissan, Great Wall and Toyota.
