Urewera Safari

Events

The biennial Urewera Safari is always a well-planned and interesting few days away.

This year’s safari started off at Doneraille Park, a native bush and camping spot on the banks of the Hangaroa River approximately 60km  from Gisborne on Friday February 05.

The first property we crossed was St Leger Station only a few kilometres up the road from the Park.  St Legers is a 1600ha property now farmed by Jessica and Jake Roche who recently took over from the Spencer family.

Exiting the station onto Bushy Knoll road, we travelled past the Manamoteo and Wyngala Forest blocks managed by Roger Dickie, then through the Tahungawatawa scenic reserve before coming to the end of the road and Bushy Knoll Station.

From there we crossed on to the 2160ha Ruakaka Station before dinner which (with breakfast the next morning) was provided by the Tiniroto School and Community and a great dinner it was too.
