Ease on to Eskdale

News and General

We're easing on to Eskdale because that's how you travel in a Series One Land Rover, content with eating up the road miles at just 80 km/h.

My wife and I are travelling in our 1948 Land Rover heading from Wanganui to Eskdale, near Napier, for the annual Series One gathering.

One stipulation is that to participate you must bring your Series One - no moderns permitted. Trailering them to the event is allowed but most choose to drive them and they come from far and wide too - Auckland, Tauranga, Rotorua, Wellington

Series Ones were the first range of Land Rovers and were produced from 1948 to 1958, so we're going back a bit. It's one thing to keep them road-worthy but to get them to a reliable standard to travel about like this requires enthusiasm.
