Story and photo by Andrew Gee
We had some new competitors and the return of an old regular (Neville) at the second round of our Club Truck Challenge (at Opunake in Taranaki) this year.
Neville's tidy Hilux has had some development to make his idea of a club truck and he was ready to shake it down. But it was the return of the girls that gave the article's title, the youth of Judith and the experience of Kelsey.
Kelsey buzzed around in her bumble bee Suzuki with gay abandon between the hazards until some air conditioning was installed in her truck. The real hero is Shona Stone who is a veteran campaigner in the CTC having competed and travelled to the competitions for a good long time.
She puts on the Taranaki round every year as well as being the Central Zone Treasurer for so long she can't remember when she started. Her work, year in and year out, keeps the Zone and the CTC series happening.
Thanks also have to go out to the Mt Egmont club members who gave up their Labour Day holiday to peg out twenty hazards, more than we could use on the day, but cheers Rowan, Gobbie, Alan, Shona and Ted.
Marty Green from Capital Cruisers Club narrowly won the day from Dave MacGinnity by just four points. They both came to this round with new theories about the best way to win, Marty ditched his navigator while Dave chose to go to Class 2 in a new Jeep.
