Whether they’re for getting work done or enjoying life’s adventures, utes are all about customisation. New Zealand company Utemaster has designed a purpose-built canopy that is complemented by a removable shelving system.
Access: canopies are considered a staple accessory for ute owners. Traditionally, they have been constructed of fibreglass or ABS plastic. One of the biggest issues with this is that the fibreglass areas must be kept small in order to maintain structural integrity. Utemaster’s Centurion Canopy is constructed of aluminium which gives it greater strength and enables the openings to take up the full width. The company claims the Centurion is the “most accessible canopy in the world”.
The Removable Canopy Shelving Unit complements the full-width door access of a Centurion canopy and provides an organised area to store tool cases, small parts and equipment inside the vehicle’s wellside.
The company says it’s ideal for tradies because it’s attached to the canopy using a T-Track system, so when the working week is finished it can easily be removed for adventures after hours. No drilling is required for initial fitment because the shelving fits into existing mounting points.
The side supports have multiple pre-cut holes, so the height of each can be adjusted according to the needs of the user. The shelving unit is mounted from the ceiling and sits completely independent of the floor, leaving space for other items or wellside drawers. It’s rated for 30kg per shelf, with 60kg per side, and is easily customisable for essential equipment such as a fire extinguisher or the optional cable holder, which keeps cords in a safe place and tangle free.
