Jaguar Land Rover has strengthened the Discovery’s family appeal by introducing a new edition – the Tempest - while updates across the entire line-up enhance both the design and family-friendly versatility of the seven-seat SUV.
Arriving in November, the new Discovery Tempest edition honours Discovery’s 35-year legacy with subtle nods to the model’s history in its name, which also inspires exclusive design details.
In addition to the new Tempest edition, Discovery also offers fresh wheel options, enhanced equipment and a new range of curated accessory packs designed to make the most of everyday family adventures.
Joelle Taylor, Head of Discovery Strategy, Product and Services, said: “Discovery is the perfect choice for those who enjoy spontaneous adventures with the whole family. As a mum of two young girls, I know from first-hand experience how well it handles everything family life throws at it. With its vast, versatile, seven-seat interior and exceptional capability, I know we will reach our destination in comfort and with everything we need. The fresh design details and eye-catching Tempest edition ensure the range is now more compelling than ever.”
Discovery Tempest
The most luxurious, comfortable and highly-specified Discovery ever produced, the new Tempest edition represents the pinnacle of the family. Tempest takes its name from the secret development launch programme for the second-generation Discovery launched in 1998 – one of the brand’s most recognisable models.
A contrasting Petra Copper Gloss roof finish is standard – the first time this roof colour has been available on Discovery – with Narvik Gloss Black available as an option. This is complemented by a Petra Copper Gloss finish for exterior design details including the the wing vent, Discovery script and lower bumper inserts. The 22‑inch Diamond Turned Style 5124 alloy wheel design sports Petra Copper tinted lacquer and Gloss Black detailing – a new finish for Discovery and exclusive to Tempest.
The Tempest is further identified by unique badging for the B-pillars, treadplates, puddle lamps and interior finishers. The spiral Tempest graphic represents power and movement. The cabin is enhanced with Shadow Aluminium detailing, and extended Ebony Windsor leather upholstery.
Ben Montgomery, General Manager, Jaguar Land Rover New Zealand, adds
" The new Tempest edition takes this to the next level. It’s luxurious, beautifully finished, and ready for anything. It’s a vehicle that really speaks to the way Kiwi families live: active, adventurous and always on the go.”
Discovery now features a number of specification enhancements designed to offer more choice and versatility. There are new wheel options, featuring a unique colour finish that helps elevate the exterior, providing the perfect combination of practicality, all‑terrain capability and visual appeal.
In New Zealand, the Discovery line-up now includes three variants:
- D250 SE
- D350 HSE
- D350 Tempest
All variants feature enhanced specifications and equipment updates to meet the needs of modern families
Discovery continues to set the standard for family versatility and its range of ingenious accessories help make the most of its incredible potential. Families can now benefit from a selection of new curated option packs available: Beach Days, Road Trip and Snow Days.
Beach Days allows clients to make the most of sunny days by the sea with its thoughtfully chosen combination of extras. A collapsible organiser for the load area is perfect for housing buckets, spades and beach balls, while bespoke sunshades for the tailgate – plus second- and third-row windows – keep the cabin protected from the glare of the sun. The versatile roof rack makes it easy to transport canoes, surfboards or bodyboards, and rubber mats throughout protect the carpets from splashes and spills.
For the Road Trip pack there are two seat organisers to keep possessions tidied out of the way, while the centre armrest cooler and an electric cool bag are ideal for on-the-go snacks and family picnics. Cross bars and a roof box bring extra luggage capacity for long haul trips, while wind deflectors let the air in on sunny days without disturbing the calm inside.
For Snow Days, clients can make the most of Discovery’s capability to enjoy their favourite winter sports. Cross bars for the standard roof rails allow quick and easy carrying of skis and snowboards. A durable and tailored rubber loadspace mat protect the load area from snowy boots, while mudflaps and a snow traction system bring peace of mind for the most challenging driving conditions.
The three new packs have been introduced follow the success of the existing For Dogs and Biking Adventures packs. For Dogs includes a foldable pet carrier, portable rinse system, spill-resistant water bowl and quilted load space liner – ensuring the family pet is also looked after.
To cater for those who love to cycle, the Biking Adventures accessories feature antimicrobial deep-sided rubber mats, mud flaps front and rear and side steps that help to reach the roof mounted cycle carrier and roof cross bars. For those who don’t want a roof-mounted cycle carrier, a two-bike tow bar-mounted carrier is available.
Discovery remains a highly capable and versatile full‑sized family SUV, with all models featuring a 3,500kg towing capacity, with Advanced Tow Assist taking the strain out of difficult reversing manoeuvres.
Discovery’s exceptional capability is supported by All Terrain Progress Control that enables drivers to set and maintain a steady speed in challenging conditions off-road. It works with Terrain Response 2, which offers driving modes that optimise a range of vehicle settings to suit different ground conditions, whatever the terrain or weather, while a maximum wading depth of 900mm provides added confidence.
