Earthcruiser’s 79-series Land-Cruiser-based Extreme XTR250

Earthcruiser’s 79-series Land-Cruiser-based Extreme XTR250
New and tested 4WDs

Aussie-based rugged camper specialist Earthcruiser can now sell you a Toyota Land-Cruiser 79-series-based on and off-road camper ready for that ‘trip-of-a-lifetime’.

Earthcruiser Australia has launched its all-rounder and most advanced camper ‘Extreme,’ bringing off-road and remote travelling within your reach.

The expedition-grade Extreme model is based on the 79-series Land-Cruiser that you can get in both single and dual cab configuration. Earthcruiser also said that with its sturdy Toyota base and innovative ‘pop-top’ design of the ‘living space at the back’ the Extreme XTR250... ’represented the perfect blend of comfort and off-road prowess allowing it to master all types of roads under all conditions.’

Powertrain

Powered by a 4.5-litre turbo diesel V8 engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, the 4x4 Earthcruiser Extreme produces 151kW of peak power and 430Nm of peak torque. It can also be specced at time of ordering with a 6 speed automatic transmission.

Camper Facilities

The camper unit itself is fully moulded featuring high-density thermal foam walls, floor, and roof. It has an integrated awning, three exterior emergency/camping LED spotlights, two opening windows fitted with fly-screen and black-out blinds, and an entry assist handle.

Comfort Features

To make driving comfortable on different terrains, Earthcruiser engineers have upgraded many components including fitting parabolic leaf springs at the rear to minimise weight and improve flex, and Bilstein shock absorbers, front and rear.

The company has also uprated the factory (rear) differential with track correction and heavy-duty EN26 chrome moly full-floating axles from JMACX, beefed up the clutch, and upped the rating of the alloy rims knowing that they would be fitted with larger than standard (33in) Black Bear Mud Terrain Tyres which measure 33x11.5,R16 126Q (285/75R16).

It has also increased the braking power by 30 percent through the installation of a larger brake booster increasing output to front and rear ventilated disc brakes.

Welcome aboard

Inside the camper, you get one double bed and one single bed (convertible dinette), a high-density mattress with a memory foam topper, interior lights, a fridge with freezer, a diesel heater, climate control, continuous hot water, a freshwater drinking fountain with purifier, and a fire extinguisher.

Budding ‘Outback Chefs’ can make use, meanwhile, of a two-burner induction cook-top, a stainless-steel sink and tap mixer including a fresh water drinking fountain, all fed by a 12 volt water pump. You also get a fold-down swivel table with legs for outdoor use, plus – of course – a toilet and both external and internal showers.

Electrical System

A 450amp array of Earthcruiser lithium batteries powers all the electrical systems. You can recharge the batteries through standard 270w solar panels (additional 270 watts available) or while on the move utilising the vehicle’s onboard alternator.

When stationary, of course, you can also charge the batteries with a 25-50amp battery charger and the vehicles employ a 3000w inverter to power the external BBQ and any 24volt requirements.

With over 120+ functions, digital switching (Finscan) panels are positioned in both the camper and the cab to make operation of the vehicle effortless. In saying that, should you experience any digital switching issues Earthcruiser integrates an “Override System of Switches’ into the system for critical components to draw power from an alternate supply so that essential items can be turned on.

Optional extras

The new Earthcruiser Extreme comes with an array of new optional features such as an upgraded sound system featuring Hema mapping as well as Bluetooth and iPhone connectivity, touch screen control with over 80+ functions, cruise control, reversing camera, a Celfi 100dba Booster, an Aerial 4G modem, and many more.

The Earthcruiser Extreme can also be optioned with 13,000lb Runva Winches front and rear. And you can opt for the additional winch bullbar that will include side steps with a colour-coded powder coat.

Other optional features include LED light bar, Hella HID spotlights, an EarthAir - rear-mounted air conditioner, 80 Channel UHF (GME) RT with aerial, roof-mounted fans, on-board compressed air, and a second spare wheel carrier (comprising winch assist, spare wheel, tyre and amp; plus two x wheel covers).

Fluids

The Extreme has the optional capacity to carry an extra 205 litres of both fuel (in this case, diesel), and water.

GVM and TARE

The Extreme has a GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass or Maximum Weight) of 4499kg and a TARE (Or Dry Weight) and depending on configuration, layout and options, of between 3300kg & 3800kg.
