Subaru confirms all-new, all-electric Trailseeker for New Zealand

New and tested 4WDs

The Trailseeker Touring will represent Subaru’s electric SUV option in New Zealand, offering Kiwi customers a larger, even more adventure-oriented EV., it will join the New Zealand SUV line-up in September 2026.

Producing 280 kW of maximum combined power and accelerating from 0–100 km/h in approximately 4.4 seconds, Trailseeker is set to become the fastest-accelerating production Subaru ever built. What’s more, it delivers these performance credentials without losing the all-road capability that makes Subaru so well suited to New Zealand’s varied conditions. With 211mm1 of ground clearance, Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and low centre of gravity, Trailseeker brings genuine all-terrain confidence.

At the heart of Trailseeker is Subaru’s next-generation e-Subaru Global Platform, developed specifically to support higher outputs, extended driving range and enhanced all-wheel drive performance. The architecture intelligently manages power delivery, traction and vehicle balance in real time.

Power is supplied by a 74.7 kWh CATL battery, delivering a driving range of up to 488 kilometres. With 150 kW DC fast-charging, Trailseeker can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in approximately 30 minutes, while 22 kW three-phase AC charging and 1500 W Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability further supports versatility and everyday usability alongside its performance credentials. With a 1,500kg braked towing capacity, Trailseeker reinforces its role as an electric SUV designed for real-world adventure and everyday practicality.

Trailseeker remains unmistakably Subaru. Its dual-motor Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, available as standard, has been tuned by Subaru’s engineers to deliver confidence-inspiring traction across a wide range of conditions.

General Manager of Inchcape New Zealand Jerry Delaney, distributor of Subaru in New Zealand says: says Trailseeker represents an exciting addition to the Subaru range.

“We welcome the arrival of Trailseeker to New Zealand, as it is a personality-packed EV. It's the ideal Subaru for Kiwi drivers seeking adventure and for those who want to enjoy an engaging performance drive, all while remaining grounded in the confidence, safety and All-Wheel Drive capability that underpins Subaru’s DNA.

“After we sold out of Solterra in New Zealand, we have been eagerly awaiting a new EV Subaru model here and the Trailseeker is a fantastic option. It delivers electric performance without compromising on confidence, control or real-world capability – the qualities our customers expect from a Subaru. The bonus is that the Trailseeker is a seriously quick EV and as the fastest Subaru production vehicle ever, New Zealanders are going to love its performance in all conditions. Trailseeker retains Subaru’s roots, while opening our next chapter in EVolution through electric power, and offering an even greater choice for our customers.”

“While the all-new Trailseeker joins the updated Solterra, and the all-new Uncharted in Subaru’s global electric range - now united under Subaru’s Sport Electric Vehicle (SEV) category — we will be focusing solely on Trailseeker Touring in New Zealand at this stage. Inchcape New Zealand will be constantly assessing other Subaru EV models and we will keep our customers updated on any changes to our line-up,” Delaney says.
