Baby cruiser in the works

News and General

Toyota’s freshened Land Cruiser 70 is arriving soon, with a revamped Prado also imminent. There are murmurings about EV 4WDs.
But what’s this? Toyota is looking to drop a new ‘Baby Cruiser’. Its working title is supposedly Land Hopper, though that’s already the name of a scooter in Japan.  Land Cruiser fans are calling it the Cruiser Mini, indirect successor to the FJ Cruiser. It certainly shares a family ‘look’ with the new Prado.
It’s more than just a fakey show concept apparently, with Japanese media saying it’s likely to go on sale there by the end of the year.
Though it first appeared as the Compact Cruiser EV concept a couple of years ago that version would use an electric version of the TNGA architecture.
Whatever it’s called, the 4WD will run a 1.5-litre turbocharged three cylinder engine – a format Toyota has already employed to great effect in the GR Yaris.
