Nissan confirms production of RHD Patrols

News and General

Production of the all-new Nissan Patrol has officially commenced in Kyushu, Japan, with the first right-hand-drive Patrol vehicles rolling off the line at Nissan's Shatai Kyushu plant destined for Australia and New Zealand.

The milestone marks the start of the all-new Nissan Patrol production for right-hand-drive markets, continuing Nissan Shatai Kyushu’s proud tradition of assembling Patrol vehicles for Oceania and global markets. The factory also produces Infiniti's flagship QX80 SUV. The two vehicles share underlying architecture, basic dimensions, and body-on-frame platform, though they are differentiated by styling, interior appointments, and suspension tuning.

Built on an all-new ladder-frame chassis, the all-new Patrol features substantially larger frame side members, delivering higher static torsional stiffness than the outgoing Y62 Patrol. The larger frame side members contribute to a 40 per cent increase in torsional rigidity, while also improving noise, vibration and harshness (NVH), handling and ride comfort.

The new chassis also supports the all-new Patrol’s increased (and class-leading) 3,700kg maximum braked towing capacity and contributes to even higher levels of durability, reinforcing the Patrol’s capability across a broad range of driving conditions.

The all-new Patrol also features a significant increase in the use of high-strength steel within its body structure. High-strength steel now accounts for 27 per cent of the total body structure — a 21 per cent increase over the outgoing Y62 Patrol.

The increased use of high-strength steel helps to create a stronger and more rigid body structure, supporting enhanced durability and occupant protection while helping to optimise overall vehicle weight.

With production now underway, the all-new Nissan Patrol is on track to launch in New Zealand in the months ahead, with the first customer deliveries scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.
