Blanket form makes power portable and reliable
Getting power in remote places has always been a bit tricky.
Even when solar became affordable and accessible to 4WD enthusiasts, the relative fragility of rigid solar panels made transporting them a challenge.
Now, a new ultra-portable monocrystalline solar blanket offers portability and reliability.
Redarc has launched a range of these units in 160, 240 and 300-watt power ratings. The 300-watt version is the highest-output the company has ever offered.
Solar blankets offer flexibility, in every sense of the word. Placement, storage, easy orientation to sunlight – blankets can be draped on the roof of the 4WD, or the bonnet, hung from an awning or on a handy log or rock in the campsite area.
They offer the best possible supply of free power from the sun and Redarc’s new range is up to 40 per cent lighter than older versions. They store as a 36x36x8cm stack, making it easy to stow them safely and securely when packing down the campsite.
Solar blankets are made of heavy duty canvas and covered in an anti-reflective, scratch resistant ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) coating for durability, reliability and long life. That makes them perfect for off-road adventuring.
The new range features industry-standard Anderson SB 50 connectors for plug-and-play simplicity. Kits are also available that include a solar regulator and extension cables.
Redarc’s Ben Marsh says the range is packed full of new features at a competitive price.
Users going bush can couple the new solar blankets with Redarc’s lithium GoBlock power storage unit and the range is compatible with all other Redarc off-grid power gear: generation, storage, charging, energy management and conversion. The new blankets have a two-year warranty.
