Camping

News and General

We all know that there are major differences between the Australian and New Zealand 4WD markets.

We’ve been highlighting these over recent issues but more in terms of places to go and things to see and do when you are there.

What we haven’t really done, and what we hope this little photo feature will achieve, is highlight the huge difference there is in terms of hardware, specifically camping trailers.

A cross between the tents and caravans Kiwis tend to favour, camping trailers are rugged, robust, practical pack-away products which come in all shapes and sizes for budgets large and small.

Some are the old fashioned tilt-top style while others are fully built-up and as rugged as you like. You want it, the trailer and the accessories are there to go with it, all designed to make that camping experience all the better.

Don’t think that it’s small potatoes compared with caravans and camper vans either.

In a recent briefing report market research specialist Ibis established that the Aussie trailer and caravan sector had an annual revenue of $AUD2 billion, an annual growth rate of between 10 and 20%, and employed over 3000 people.

The report pointed out that there was no one dominant player, rather a range of smaller companies specialising in particular sub-sectors.

It also noted that sales have been going from strength to strength over the past five years with growth driven by an ageing population (the so-called Grey Nomad phenomenon), positive consumer sentiment and rising discretionary income.
