Auckland 4x4 – great gear for 4WDs

News and General
Long experience in 4WD accessories and systems

Auckland 4x4 Performance has been the ‘must stop’ source of 4WD accessories since 1998. It evolved from the family business, Papakura Auto Electrical Ltd, which was first established in 1952.

Richard Brooks served his time as an auto electrical apprentice in the mid-1980s within his father’s business.

“Once qualified I became interested in Fuel injection diagnosis and repair. Through my involvement with the Bosch NZ service council, I managed to meet a wide variety of fellow business owners.”

Talks with Autokraft owners Tim and Hugo, North Island importers of ARB, led to the creation of Auckland 4x4 Performance in mid-1998.

“So mid 1998 was the start of the Auckland 4x4 Performance division. I still remember our first client’s 80 series – and Old Man Emu suspension fit-out. The customer and I were just blown away by how it had transformed the handling of his pride and joy,” says Richard.

In the intervening last 24 years it has been full on for the team at Auckland 4x4 Performance. After purchasing a chassis dyno, the company also stepped into engine enhancements.

“With the help of some wonderful partnerships with Unichip, Safari products and Steinbauer we have been able to offer many a 4WD projects the benefit of more power and improved fuel economy. This in turn helps carry the accessories that get added to maximise the enjoyment of every owner’s 4x4.”

“In recent years the 4WD market has gone through significant change with ARB Australia setting up a NZ distribution centre in Hamilton. Alongside this move, Auckland 4X4 has stepped up to full ARB stockist status.

“ARB as a company has worked with me to grow my business, offering the best supply possible through the trying times of Covid.”

Auckland 4x4 Performance has been heavily involved in fit-outs over the last 10-15 years with various fleet and after-market customers. Whether it be full protection winch bars and rear step tow bars to snorkels or even full suspension packages catering to the customer’s load requirements.

“As a business we do offer the full automotive umbrella. From vehicle servicing to a full vehicle re-wire, my team can handle it all, as all my technicians train in the auto electrical and mechanical fields.”

Richard says with the increasing complexity and sophistication of cars, trucks and 4WD vehicles Auckland 4x4 has continued to invest in diagnostic and service equipment that can serve the needs of customers.

Auckland 4x4 Performance has just recently purchased the full range of Texas ADAS recalibrating tools.

“This enables my business to lift a 4WD to check and recalibrate front radar and cameras where accessories have been fitted.
“So, if you have a 4x4 and you need accessories or a service give my team a call, we are happy to help.”
